Naturopathic Principles...
We Believe
Naturopaths believe that illness is based upon a cause and effect. Therefore, they believe that by eliminating the cause of the illness, the symptoms will disappear. They do not treat disease nor believe that diseases are entities in as of themselves, but that so called diseases are actually symptoms in which the body presents itself as a means to warn us that it is breaking down and in trouble.
Naturopaths also believe that the body, as it has been created, has the ability to heal itself. The holistic approach through alternative modalities helps the body in a way that it can function as it was designed, in allowing the healing process to take place.
There are many reasons in which disease-like symptoms appear. Poor nutrition, stress, toxins, lack of rest and/or exercise, are just a few samples all of which deprive the body of what it needs or uses up resources that your body has stored in order to function properly.
First Do No Harm
Naturopaths follow three principles to avoid harming their client. The first is to employ modalities that minimize the risk of harmful side effects. The second is to avoid the harmful suppression of symptoms. The third is to respect the individual's self-healing process by using the least force necessary for evaluation and treatment.
The Healing Power of Nature
This principal of Naturopathic modalities refers to not only your body's natural ability to heal itself, but also to natural remedies used to restore balance. Naturopathic modalities regards your body's order and intelligence as a guide.
Identify and Treat the Cause
It is impossible to recover from an illness, if the underlying cause is not approached. Communication is a key aspect of naturopathic treatment. A practitioner will work with you to understand why symptoms emerged. Treatment is never a means for suppressing symptoms. Instead, a naturopath will direct treatment toward the root cause of illness be it physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual.
Treat the Whole Person
A Naturopath approaches healing holistically. Poor health and wellness alike affect the functioning of all of your body's systems. Dis-harmony and imbalance yield sickness, while harmony and balance yield wellness.
The Teacher
As teachers, Naturopaths empower and motivate clients to take responsibility for their own health by engaging clients awareness of their own wellbeing. A Naturopath will listen to and evaluate a client carefully. Then, a Naturopath can provide their client with the knowledge needed to recognize imbalance and bring about healthful change.
Prevention
The naturopathic focus is on building health, rather than fighting disease. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is sufficient for avoiding numerous health issues. Risks factors and heredity are considered and appropriate interventions are designed to prevent illness.
